When the small town of Nativity, Missouri, loses its much-needed seasonal business, more than the economy suffers. Lifelong resident Roni Elliot clashes with the new outside consultant Jake Brisco, whose drastic budget-slashing threatens the traditions and spirit of Nativity. However, as forgotten joys rekindle and new traditions emerge, Christmas once again becomes a season of hope.

The Christmas Lamp A Novella (Audible Audio Edition) Lori Copeland Laural Merlington Zondervan Books

The Christmas Lamp is an adorable story of love and tradition. Love when you least expect it and creating new traditions when the old ones are lost. It is a great reminder of just how priceless and important tradition really is.
Nativity, Missouri is a small, dying town, jus trying to stay alive. For them, all of their Christmas traditions, right down to the Christmas tree in the middle of the intersection that gets run over at least three times a year, are more important than anything else. WHen a new consultant comes along to try to help the town with their financial woes, and he says they have to cut back on their Christmas expenditures or else they won't survive, the town is forced to come together and remember what Christmas is really all about.
While the Christmas Lamp is extremely predictable - I had pretty much the whole story figured out from page 1 - it's also an exciting journey of predictability. I was happy to be along for the ride.
I think Roni and Jake, the protagonists, have quite a bit more in common than they think, and reading about them together as they realize they are falling in love left me with a huge smile on my face. Nativity itself seems like the cutest small town - the kind of place I would love to live when I retire - It's filled with kind, happy, generous people.
As Copeland tells her story, the reader can't help but be filled with a beautiful sense of Christmas joy, love, and cheer. She reminds us of the true spirit of Christmas without being preachy or talking overtly about God, which I find to be an amazing feat.
I also loved the way she incorporated the Lamp from "A Christmas Story." It made me feel even more connected to the book.
All in all, this is the kind of book I want to be reading at Christmas time.

The Christmas Lamp A Novella (Audible Audio Edition) Lori Copeland Laural Merlington Zondervan Books Reviews

Great little Christmas story. Got it last year, and found it in my Christmas collection recently. Very nicely written Christmas novella. It read like a Hallmark movie. You kind of knew where the story would end, but the journey was great nonetheless. It had a few plot twists that made for fun and sometimes sad reading. When i go for a Christmas read I really don't want or need a challenging storyline. A pleasant story with some fun characters and maybe a reminder of what Christmas is all about is good enough for me. This book has that. A short pleasant read about Christmas in a modern day small town.
I have never seen the story about the lamp. I guess I will have to look for it. I look forward to reading it.
What I Loved This was such a short, sweet, uplifting Christmas story about a town finding their Holiday Spirit in spite of some major obstacles. The town was full of people, each with their own personalities that really showed through.

What I Liked The quirky traditions of the town that all found a way to exist in spite of the odds.

Why this is a great little holiday read This was free on so it didn't cost a thing. It is quick read and will make you smile. It will put you in the holiday mood!
This was a heartwarming Christmas story, a perfect read for the holidays.

Nativity, Missouri is dying since the new highway went in and the tour buses to Branson are bypassing it. Jake Briscoe comes in to try and save the town but must make unpopular cuts. The residents are losing their Christmas spirit because the old traditions are being done away with.

Can the town be saved?
Much to the chagrin of the people Jake Brisco comes breezing into the small town of Nativity and with him comes budget cuts including the town's Christmas tree which gets knocked over and replaced several times during the Christmas season, eating the money in the town's coffers. He makes Roni bristle with his changes but still she remains more than civil to him, even generous.

In the window of the local hardware store, Roni is drawn to a lamp in the window quite reminiscent of the one from the movie "A Christmas Story."

Guy Grinch. A little romance. Rather typical Christmas story. A little "chaser" after a good novel.
This is a short and sweet inspirational Christmas novella, wonderful as a free download for .

It takes place in Nativity, Missouri, a small town that once had a prosperous economy thanks to the many tour buses that stopped on the way to nearby Branson, a tourist mecca. Now that the new road has bypassed it, Nativity is struggling to survive and has hired a consultant to devise a plan to save it, but the timing couldn't be worse.

Nativity is used to going all out for Christmas, regardless of expense, and its new consultant, who arrives just before Christmas, hates the trappings of the holiday.

By the end of the story, everyone has learned a lesson in the true value of the Christmas spirit, and that the same message can be conveyed by both an elegant Christmas lamp and the tacky lamp of the classic movie, A Christmas Story.

The plot is a little predictable, but the story is good and the characters are likable, so this is a quick and pleasant way to read your way into the Christmas spirit.
What a wonderful heartfelt Christmas read. This story will surely tug on your heart strings as it did mine.

Nativity is a small town close to being non-existent due to money woes. Will this town survive and thrive once again at the expense of losing the Christmas traditions that are near and dear to the people of Nativity?

As I became acquainted with each character in this book, my heart grew in fondness for each and every one. I asked myself a question, would I be as concerned with tradition as these folks were or would I push to set tradition aside in order to save my town?

This is one heartwarming story that you do not want to miss. I know Christmas has come and gone but I still enjoy a good Christmas read any time of the year.

I have read other books by author Lori Copeland and have enjoyed her novels. Don’t miss out on this one!
